2008-04-25 Jay Leno
- Turn Me Loose
Pour l'émission.
Et en bonus:
- Guitar
- 1999

"We arrived just before 3 and were in a waiting area as the other guests assembled (...) They then marched us all as a bg group around to the front of the building on Alameda Ave. The other ticketholders had been sitting out there most of the day (it was 95 degrees!) (...). We went through a metal detector and then into the building. They directed us up some stairs in the studio and at the top, the page asked for our names. He told us to stand off to the side for a minute (...) They then led us to the other side of the studio and seated us in the balcony (first row - thanks HQ!) above where the performance area was. (...). The curtain was down but you could see Prince's lyric stand in front of the curtain. It was turned just enough the no one could see what song was cued up there. ;)
We saw some other fans down on the floor in the first few rows - diehards who had camped out starting the night before. (...) So the fans were in the house. We were all waving to each other, excited, pumped up about being there. Then Jay Leno came out in his trademark denims and said hello, welcomed us, gave us a short intro to how the show was going to work. We all screamed our heads off when he mentioned Prince was performing. He then turned the stage over to stuttering John Melendez who is the Tonight Show announcer. He got the crowd warmed up, threw out some shirts, then invited anyone "with talent" to come down and show off for the chance to win some schwag. (...).
The taping then started; Jay came out and did his monologue. After he finished, they went dark for commercial and the fire alarms started going off. After a few minutes (and the poor Tonight Show band singer keeping us entertained through it all), they said we'd have to evacuate the building and then come back in. I joked that Prince was so hot he set off the alarm. LOL. Eventually we came back in, took our seats and the taping continued. Jay showed a hilarious Jaywalking segment and then the first guest, Hugh Laurie of the TV show "House" came out. He was very funny and he had two segments. Then Jay had his second guest, somebody Fine who is an environmental writer who was living the green life in New Mexico and wrote a book about it. None of this really mattered as I knew Prince was coming next - woo hoo!
Finally they went to commercial and the cameras all moved over to capture the upcoming performance. When they came back from break, I was sure to throw a few aw-woops into the mic over our heads (I hope that makes the broadcast!) and Jay started introducing Prince. We hooted and hollered, the curtain went up and oh, it was so great to lay eyes on him again! The band looked fresh in their new snazzy outfits and the set was great looking. Since you'll see it on TV I won't discuss it at length. But the backdrop artwork was great - very cool looking.
After he finished the broadcast song, Prince exited the stage and the band hung around. Then the crew told us to sit down and be quiet since they needed to film some promos. The band gathered around behind Jay, along with the two guests, and Prince on the left in his sweet suit. They then shot a series of promos. During one of them, Jay called Prince a "pop idol" and when it ended and they had cut, prince said into the mic "Uh, don't say pop idol". Sort of joking but kind of meant it. Of course Jay ran with it on the next promo "And tonight i've got THE p.i, the pop idol himself, PRINCE!" It was really funny. Unfortunately the crowd really laughed at the end of that one so I'm not sure they'll be able to use it. On the final promo, Prince was off to the side mouthing Jay's promo lines as Jay did them; it was hilarious. Like he did when he imitated Mary Sharon in UTCM at the piano.
So they finished the promos and told us Prince would be performing another song. YEAH! Prince came back out and started the intro riff to Guitar. Then he stopped, sort of shook his head like 'Nah' and went over to play with his pedals a bit. He noodled around some, then found a sound he liked, and ripped into Guitar. Morris was bobbing his head off - I loved it! It was a great version of the song and Prince was into it, playing some great licks on his guitar. The horn players and singers were not on stage for that song; it was Renato, Cora, Josh, and Morris only. Funky! During the chorus a couple of times, Prince would let us sing the "Not like I love this guitar" part.
Guitar finished and Prince left the stage. Would he play again? YES! He came back out with the Hohner and the intro to 1999 came on the speakers. Woo hoo! "Don't worry, I won't hurt u. I only want u 2 have some fun". We were screaming, yelling, having a great time and everyone in the studio knew that jam! The best part was Prince played it all the way out - even the "Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb" part. The whole band was back on stage for this one and the horns sounded great. The three singers, Shelby, Marva and Ledisi, led us in the "Paaaarty!" screams. It was a great old school jam and we had a blast. Like all good things, it did end and Prince gave us a good night wave and off he went. "

Cerise sur le gâteau, on a même les paroles de cette nouvelle chanson :
U don't really know me U just think U do
It's against the law in 13 states what I'm gonna do 2 U
Oh baby U got 2 Turn Me Loose
If U really love me U got 2 give me what I need
Or get your stuff and get cuz I'll just make U bleed
The board behind Ur head, about 2 split in 2
Whatever's holding up this bed'll B here when I'm through
Oh baby U got 2 Turn Me Loose
If U like these blankets U better throw them on the floor
The weather girl's a friend of mine, cuz when it rains it pours
Oh baby U got 2 Turn Me Loose
Turn me loose now..
U don't understand, I don't do this nightly
But if I get it once U'll want me 2, more than likely
Oh baby U got 2 Turn Me Loose
I'm much 2 hard 2 handle, we could never B more than friends
Speaking of which U need 2 leap out of bed, and never come back again
Oh baby U got 2 Turn Me Loose
Peace. BLR
